Widespread Panic Equipment Manager Found Dead In Home

Donald Garrie Vereen

Long-time equipment manager for southern jam-band Widespread Panic, Donald Garrie Vereen, was found dead in his home Thursday morning with a stab wound in his chest. He was 49 years old.

The circumstances surrounding his death are currently unclear. The band’s website said it was the result of complications from an aneurism while the Clarke County medical examiner declared it a homicide.

Vereen’s family and the band ask that, “energies spent are not wasted on rumor and speculation, but channeled into the Love we share for Garrie, his Family, and one another.”

Vereen’s death came just before the band’s 25th anniversary tour, set to pass through Florida for a headlining slot at the Wanee Music Festival. He had worked with the band for nearly 20 years.

About clazaga5

I am a music writer. I graduated from FIU's School of Journalism and Mass Communications in April, 2011. I've always had a passion for music. Since high school, I've been involved in a few bands and written a good number of original songs. I loved going to shows and seeing live music. So when the notion struck me to combine the two, it seemed only logical that I write about live music when and wherever I find it. This blog is what came of that notion.
