It has been announced that Widespread Panic’s premier South By Southwest performance on March 17 will be taped for the Austin City Limits program on PBS.
This will be the first time a SXSW showcase will be taped for ACL programming.
For ACL series executive producer, Terry Lickona, the decision was a “no brainer.”
“We wanted to do something special with them for their 25th anniversary,” said Lickona.
With SXSW using ACL’s new state-of-the-art venue, The Moody Theatre, for musical showcases, Lickona said it was great opportunity to show off the new venue and capture the excitement of SXSW.
“I have no doubt that Widespread Panic is the right band to do it,” said Lickona.
The showcase at The Moody Theatre for SXSW will include the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, The New Mastersounds and keynote speaker Bob Geldof. It will be open to SXSW music and platinum badges, festival wristbands and friends of ACL.
The broadcast date for the performance has yet to be released.
