Return of the JAM: Transit’s Just Another Monday Is Back

Transit Lounge has announced it will reintroduce its open jam night, J.A.M. (Just Another Monday), into its weekly schedule.

Some six months ago, local musicians were disappointed to see Transit Lounge’s J.A.M. session replaced by “Rock Band Night.” Not as in a live band—Transit Lounge features quality live music every weekend—but as in the video game, Rock Band.

Transit’s marketing and promotions director, Jessie Allen, said J.A.M. needed a break.

“It was getting stuck with the same musicians and the same genre,” Allen said. “It got kind of stale.”

She also noted that the core group of players made people nervous about stepping up and sitting in.

But after overhauling the venue’s weekly schedule, it was decided to reinstate the J.A.M. with a new twist.

“It’s different every week,” said Allen.

Each week of the month will feature a different theme. The first Monday will feature an electronic jam, hosted by Y-Diz of Telekinetic Walrus. The second will feature a Latin and world jam, the host of which has yet to be decided upon. The third will be a DJ jam, in the form of battles, hosted by Fresh Basil Crew. The fourth will be a miscellaneous jam, the theme open and rotating as the months pass.

“It’s not serious music time— it’s more of a social thing,” said Allen. “We want everyone to feel that they can come down and jam.”

About clazaga5

I am a music writer. I graduated from FIU's School of Journalism and Mass Communications in April, 2011. I've always had a passion for music. Since high school, I've been involved in a few bands and written a good number of original songs. I loved going to shows and seeing live music. So when the notion struck me to combine the two, it seemed only logical that I write about live music when and wherever I find it. This blog is what came of that notion.
